Teachers Without Borders-Nigeria

ABOUT TWB-Nigeria

Teachers Without Borders-Nigeria which was established in 2001, was pioneered by Raphael Ogar Oko and Patricia Ave Aquah, two extraordinary teachers, who were seeking a partnership with an organization devoted to both professional development and community education. After reaching every sector of Nigeria society: elders and tribal leaders, government. Academia, NGOs, international agencies, local community councils, teachers, parents and students, TWB-NIGERIA was formally launched in October, 2002. Teachers Without Borders - Nigeria is officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria to work throughout Nigeria and looks forward to the development of over 150 Community Teaching and Learning Centers and the mobilization of over 144,000 teachers/volunteers in Nigeria, with the support of government agencies and academia.

Along with the TWB-Nigeria Advisory Council and Trustees (who have served both as a mobilization and fund-raising arm), TWB-Nigeria launched the first Community Teaching and Learning Center (CTLC) in Port Harcourt, supported by the Ministry of Education. TWB-Nigeria has spearheaded 7 major teacher professional training conferences dealing with subjects such as: the mobilization of teachers for national renewal, parent education, disability education, HIV/AIDS education, girls education, entrepreneurship development and capacity building. We established partnerships and approvals for 152 additional centers (with the support of local government authorities and tribal elders) including CTLCs in two teaching hospitals, allowing doctors and community educators to have access to health information and resources. Teachers Without Borders has more members in Nigeria than in any other country.  The members are dedicated, honest, and committed to the rebuilding of their country.
